OP is clearly a noob when it comes to EFT. Wyvern can get upwards of 100k dps tank, overheated, with no difficulties. It's not sustainable, but that's what the Avatar in your gang is for.

For "missions" I recommend using "railguns", not "blasters" on your "thorax". Of course, medium guns are a must, but you'll probably get an "optimal" of over 10km with "railguns", so the web isn't quite as useful. Use your Hobgoblin class "drones"...

I've never really had to do this, but I've read the same thing. I imagine that it depends largely upon what your opponent and yourself are flying. If you're in a wolf, you can probably tank a few volleys, so keeping transversal isn't as important...
